Calculating area

Last week we estimated the area of the netball court, then went outside to measure the playground. Each group had one 2m piece of string which they used to measure the width and length of the playground. Different techniques were used, with varying degrees of accuracy...

Calculators were used to find the area in square metres, and results recorded on the board in the classroom.

We will be talking about ways we could measure the width and length more accurately and - after some careful measuring - seeing whose measurements were the most accurate.
